Topic: Communication Technology

Source: Me and my family.

Relation: Technology has made communication over long distances easier.

Description: Me, my dad and my two brothers all played world of warcraft together. Once i went away to college we would still play together almost everyday. The main way for us to talk back then was to
log into the game and talk. I don't think i actually called my dad freshman year but we still talked though the game every day. Now that we both quit world of warcraft the amount that we talk has gone down drastically, we maybe talk once a week or once every two weeks.

Commentary: If it wasn't for talking though video games the amount me and my dad talk would be very little. It was also very convenient because if we forgot to tell the other something we would not have to call them again we would just have to type it to them.

  1. I use World of Warcraft as a way to communicate, too. At first, it was a bonding activity between my boyfriend, his dorm-mates and I, because we all started playing at the same time. So, even though I was the only one who lived off campus, we could still talk to each other.

Not long after that, it became the primary method of communication between me and a friend from back home. That persisted even when he moved to Humboldt State, and then to study in China. Even now, if we're not talking through WoW, we're talking about it.

Most recently, my kid sister, who lives eight hours away, started a trial account, so now we can still hang out, even if I only see her in person every four to six months.

In short, I definitely think online gaming is a valuable communication too.
